KANGA CRICKET INTRODUCTION

 

The Kanga Cricket lesson package has been devised by Saskatchewan Cricket.

 

It provides a comprehensive program for the enjoyment of boys and girls at primary school level and plays an important role in development of Junior Cricket in the province.

 

The following lesson plans are designed to develop a positive attitude by children toward sport and specifically cricket.

 

There are 6 lessons concentrating on 2 skills per section.

 

1.      Basic Bowling and Pull Shot

2.      Catching and Front Foot Drive

3.      Fielding and Throwing

4.      Revision Bowling and From Foot Drive (i.e. Drop Ball)

5.      Catching and Pull Shot

6.      Running between wickets and Pick up and Throw

 

In addition several modified minor games are included. The modified games are designed to give students the opportunity to put into practice the skills learnt, maximizing participation and proving equal opportunity.

 

Recommended Lesson Format

 

1.      Warm Up 5-10 mins.

2.      Skill Drills 15-20 mins.

3.      Modified Games 20-25 mins.

 

Equipment

The well researched and specially produced Kanga Cricket equipment has been designed specifically for use by schools. This assists both teachers and students to obtain the maximum benefits and organizational flexibility in implementing these activities.

Balls: A tennis Ball or a specially designed soft ball which has similar characteristics to a hard ball, yet eliminates the need for protective equipment and reduces the likelihood of injury.

 

Bats: Lightweight moduled plastics bats – (small & medium in sizes).

 

Stumps: Plastic, easy to assemble, pull apart and pack. Can also be used with the batting T’s for pull, hook and cut shots. Base can be filled with water.

 

Most activities will basically require one piece of equipment per every two participants.

 

More Specifically:

 

Warm-ups: One ball per student

Bowling/Throwing Drills: One ball, one marker, one set of stumps per pair.

Batting Drills: A maximum of one bat, two markers, one ball and one batting
